Beppu Station to Kannawa with Luggage: Bus, Taxi and Bag Plans

For a manageable suitcase and a hotel near Kannawa (鉄輪), start with Kamenoi Bus from Beppu Station West Exit, bay 3. Choose a taxi if several bags or the final walk make the bus awkward. Store bags first only when you have confirmed space and a practical collection plan.

Bus, taxi or store the bag first?

The bus estimate ends at the stop; the car estimate uses Kannawa Steam Bath as its destination. Neither includes every part of your station-to-hotel journey. These are planning references, not a guaranteed arrival time.

Check your departure and fare: Busdoko Oita, linked by Kamenoi Bus, and the official Kamenoi route timetables. The reviewed static pages do not establish one current fare for all route choices, so no estimated yen amount is substituted here.

From the station to your accommodation

1. Confirm the destination. Ask: “Which stop should I use with a suitcase, and how do I reach your entrance?” Save the answer with the Japanese address.
2. For 鉄輪, check the west-side departure. Kamenoi’s official boarding guide assigns bay 3 to Kannawa/Umi Jigoku services. Check the current route, destination display and day type, rather than boarding by route number alone.
3. If the hotel recommends 鉄輪温泉, check the east-side alternative. Beppu City lists Oita Kotsu services from the East Exit, with an approximate 25-minute ride to that stop. Confirm the departure bay, fare and service in Oita Kotsu’s route tools. Do not replace 鉄輪温泉 with 鉄輪 in the search.
4. Board with a workable bag plan. Kamenoi permits carry-on suitcases; its FAQ only specifically promises a luggage compartment on Yufurin, not every local bus. Keep doors and aisles clear. If the bag cannot be safely managed, use your taxi backup.
5. Finish at the correct entrance. Follow the hotel’s directions from the stop. For a taxi, show the full address, not simply “Kannawa.” Tell the property if delays threaten a dinner or check-in deadline.

Payment on Kamenoi Bus: cash, compatible nationwide transport IC cards and supported contactless cards are accepted. Cash payment does not return change automatically; ¥2,000, ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 notes cannot be changed on board. See the official payment and suitcase FAQ before travelling.

When leaving the bag behind helps

JR Kyushu lists coin lockers at Beppu Station. It does not establish available space, suitcase dimensions or a current storage price. Check those at the locker and keep a backup if your case will not fit.

A station locker makes most sense when your plan brings you back to the station. If you will remain in Kannawa overnight, ask your hotel whether it can receive your bag before check-in. Confirm reception hours and any fee; early bag acceptance does not imply early room access.

For courier delivery, agree the carrier, arrival date, label details, size limits and payment with the accommodation first. Keep your passport, medicine, valuables and things needed that day with you. Do not assume a same-day station-to-hotel forwarding service is available.

• Correct station exit, bay and bus destination checked.
• Travel-date timetable, latest service notice and last useful departure checked.
• Current fare and accepted payment ready.
• Suitcase manageable on the bus, or taxi capacity confirmed.
• Storage acceptance, price and collection arrangement confirmed if needed.
• Time allowed for waiting, traffic and the final walk before dinner or check-in.

Source notes and limits

• Beppu City: Kannawa Steam Bath access supplies approximate west-exit bus, east-exit Oita Kotsu and car times. Its additional walking times are to the bath, not to your accommodation.
• Published route lists differ: Kamenoi’s sightseeing-access page includes route 1, while the reviewed timetable index has no standalone route 1 row. City access information also lists east-side routes more broadly. Use the operator’s date-specific result and on-site destination display.
• Oita Kotsu’s airport baggage-delivery page says that service is suspended. It is not evidence of a working Beppu Station delivery service.
• No official journey-specific taxi quote or locker tariff was established in the reviewed material. Prices remain explicitly unverified instead of being presented as current rates.
