Kusatsu Onsen: steaming streets & a slower stay

Steaming streets, an evening around the Yubatake, and a hot-spring town you can explore on foot. Kusatsu makes the bath the centre of your trip.

Make the town part of your stay

The Yubatake hot-water field sits at the heart of Kusatsu. Build your visit around the surrounding streets, a bath and an evening stroll when the spring is illuminated. Nearby Netsunoyu hosts the traditional yumomi water-stirring performance; Sainokawara offers an outdoor-bath option.

Choose your base before your room

For a short stay, prioritise the walk between your accommodation, Yubatake and the bus terminal. A central ryokan keeps evening wandering simple. If you prefer a quieter location, compare the walking route or hotel shuttle before choosing the room.

Then check the bath you want: a private room bath, a reservable bath, or a shared onsen. Look at the exact room and meal plan together, particularly if dinner fixes your arrival time.

Getting here from Tokyo

A practical rail route is Ueno to Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi, then a bus to Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal. There are also direct highway-bus options from Tokyo and Shinjuku. Use your starting point and the day’s timetable to choose between them.

From Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal, the official access guide gives a walk of about six minutes to Yubatake.
