Hakone onsen with tattoos: a confirmed option and booking checks

Start with a published hotel policy. Choose a private room for privacy, and confirm the facilities you want to use.

Suimeisou publishes a clear answer

Suimeisou’s English FAQ explicitly says that guests with tattoos can use its hot springs. This is the hotel’s own published answer, checked 2026-10-03.

A private room is a choice about how you want to bathe. If shared bathing suits you, confirm the facilities covered by the hotel’s policy. If you want your own onsen, book one of its open-air-bath room categories; standard-room baths use ordinary water.

Suimeisou also offers reservable private baths as a separate option. Check the current booking arrangements and price directly rather than assuming a private room is your only choice.

Hakone Suimeisou

Arrive in Hakone-Yumoto and keep the final leg simple: Suimeisou is about a two-minute walk from the station. Its rooms face the Haya River. Choose a Japanese-style or Japanese-Western-style room with an open-air bath for your own balcony hot spring.

Good fit for: A short break with a straightforward station arrival.

Japanese-style or Japanese-Western-style Room with Open-air Bath.

About 2 minutes on foot from Hakone-Yumoto Station.

Standard rooms have a regular bath, not an in-room hot spring. Choose the exact open-air-bath category.

What about Ten-yu and Susukinohara?

Both publish open-air baths in every guest room. We have not established their tattoo policies in the official pages checked for this guide. Ask each property about your intended room bath, shared baths and any cover requirements before paying.

Questions to send the property

Keep the hotel’s answer with your reservation details. A statement about one facility does not automatically describe a different bath, spa or day-visit service.

Does an “open-air bath” always contain hot-spring water?

Check the water information as well as the room name. The room-wording guide explains the three bath descriptions to compare.
