Your own onsen in Hakone: find the room for your escape
The bath can be the reason to stay overnight. Give yourself time to arrive, settle into your room and make the evening part of the trip—rather than rushing back after a day of sightseeing.
Start with the setting you want: Suimeisou's riverside rooms near Hakone-Yumoto, Ten-yu's mountain or valley-facing room options, or Susukinohara's Sengokuhara base. Then choose the right bath category. A private bathroom and a private hot spring are different things.
Suggested plan · adapt to your hotel, transport and meal times
One night, with time to enjoy it
Day 1 · Choose one outing
Make the museum or a lake outing your main sightseeing stop. Check the route to your hotel before adding anything else.
Afternoon · Make time for the room
Arrive within your hotel's check-in window, put the bags down and leave time for the bath you booked.
Evening · Choose the meal that fits
If your rate includes dinner, plan your arrival around the hotel's meal deadline. Otherwise, arrange an evening meal before travelling.
Day 2 · Leave room for the morning
Allow time for breakfast if included, then choose an outing that works with your checkout and onward journey.

A bathroom belonging to your room. The phrase does not establish that the water is a hot spring.
In-room onsen
A hot-spring bath attached to the room. Read the selected room description and the property’s bath-water information.
Reservable private bath
A separate bath for one party during a time slot. Check booking, availability, charges and who may use it.
At Suimeisou, the official room page separates open-air-bath categories from standard rooms. Its FAQ identifies hot-spring water in the private open-air room baths and ordinary water in standard-room baths. This is a concrete reason to keep the room category in your shortlist.
Choose Suimeisou if a short walk from Hakone-Yumoto matters most, and select an open-air-bath room. Ten-yu and Susukinohara list open-air baths in every guest room; each needs another connection beyond the station. These are practical differences, not a hotel ranking.

Arrive in Hakone-Yumoto and keep the final leg simple: Suimeisou is about a two-minute walk from the station. Its rooms face the Haya River. Choose a Japanese-style or Japanese-Western-style room with an open-air bath for your own balcony hot spring.
Good fit for: A short break with a straightforward station arrival.
Japanese-style or Japanese-Western-style Room with Open-air Bath.
About 2 minutes on foot from Hakone-Yumoto Station.
Standard rooms have a regular bath, not an in-room hot spring. Choose the exact open-air-bath category.
Ten-yu puts an open-air onsen in every guest room. Its room options look towards the mountains or forest valley, making it worth leaving time for the hotel itself. Choose your room and view, then plan the shuttle from Gora around the evening you want.
Good fit for: A stay centred on the room and its open-air onsen.
All guest rooms have a private open-air onsen bath.
Train to Gora, then the hotel shuttle; public-bus alternatives are listed by the hotel.
Check the current shuttle schedule. Hakone Freepass coverage differs between bus operators.
Make Sengokuhara your base if the grassland is part of your Hakone plans. Susukinohara Ichinoyu has an open-air bath in every guest room. Leave time after sightseeing to enjoy the room; compare the building, meal plan and bus arrival before choosing.
Good fit for: Travellers who want a Sengokuhara base and an in-room bath.
All guest rooms have an open-air bath.
Bus from Hakone-Yumoto toward Togendai; get off at Daigatake, then walk about 1 minute.
The hotel estimates the bus journey at about 30 minutes. Traffic and your arrival time can change this.
Availability and price depend on dates, guests and the selected plan. Compare the hotel’s own offer as well.
Before you confirm the booking
Keep the exact room name, bath description and selected building.
Confirm that the water is a hot spring and the bath is for your party’s use.
Compare the total for the same guest ages, meals and cancellation deadline.
Check arrival time against the last transport service and any dinner deadline.
Can a couple bathe together?
Ask about the intended room bath or reserved bath, its capacity and rules. Do not infer permission for shared facilities from the word “private.”
Does a private bath confirm tattoo permission?
Check the hotel’s published policy or contact it about the facilities you want to use. Our tattoo-policy guide identifies an explicit official answer at Suimeisou.
Will a room-only plan include dinner?
Use the meal description in the selected plan. Ask about check-in and dinner timing before making a late arrival part of your itinerary.
